The organically farmed vineyards of Villa Dora are situtated on the lower slopes of Mount Vesuvius, inside the borders of the national park where the active volcano is. The soils cab best be described as ground up pumice (Importer Oliver McCrum says it looks like black Grape-Nuts), and the vines are tended organically. This wine is 80% Piedrirosso, with 20% Aglianico. There's plenty of black fruit on the nose and palate, accented nicely with hints of tar, smoke and rosemary. Good acidity keeps this medium-bodied red light on its feet and food friendly.
